The 2020 NFL season is now 16 weeks old and the time is now to start picking up players from your fantasy football waiver wire and hoping they catch fire during the fantasy playoffs. Every year a no name blows up in Week 1 and ends up being a top-50 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing with the playoffs finally here in most leagues..
Let’s get things started by taking a look at some fantasy football waiver wire tight ends for Week 17.
Irv Smith Jr., TE, Minnesota Vikings
Against the New Orleans Saints on Christmas Day, Smith had six catches (on nine targets) for 63 yards and two touchdowns. He has scored and topped 50 yards in two of his last three games, and even if Kyle Rudolph (foot) plays in Week 17 the second-year man should continue his 2021 audition to be the Vikings’ TE1.

The Detroit Lions are among the toughest teams in the league in terms of targets, catches and yards allowed to tight ends this season. But the nine touchdowns they’ve allowed to the position through Week 16 is on the other end of the spectrum, and four of them have come in the last four games. An opposing tight end has topped 50 yards or scored against them in four straight games, and five of their last seven.
Smith is a name to stash away as a breakout candidate for 2021. For Week 17, he’s on the radar as the top tight end streamer.
