Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings
In what was a down season for the Vikings, they still managed to stuff opposing quarterbacks and other skill positions. Two quarterbacks managed to throw for multiple touchdowns against them all year, and six didn’t even get one. The Vikings bring back most of their starters back from last year and have the Falcons visiting them in Minnesota, where they’re tough.
Sam Darnold, New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills
Last season, the Bills were THE toughest matchup for opposing quarterbacks. From a touchdown standpoint, it was all or nothing as four different quarterbacks scored three or more touchdowns against them. All the others had one or no scores. They held 10 starting quarterbacks on 10 different to under 200 yards. Darnold faced the Bills once last year and threw for 170 yards against them. Now, he has a lot more weapons this time around, namely in the backfield, but even Tom Brady threw for one total touchdown in two games against this defense. It’s tempting to see if the sleeper QB of 2019 can break out against one of the best pass defenses, but it’s a foolish bet.
