Malcolm Brown/Darrell Henderson, RB, Los Angeles Rams

With Todd Gurley (quad) out in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers, Brown operated as the Rams’ lead back and delivered just 40 yards on 11 carries without a reception. Henderson finally saw a heavier dose of action with Gurley out, and he finished with six carries for 39 yards with one catch for nine yards

A very tough matchup in Week 6 has to be taken into account, as does the lingering question about Gurley’s health and the likelihood his role continues to be limited. Week 7 and Week 8 brings favorable-looking matchups against the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals entered Week 6 as either the worst (ESPN PPR scoring) or second-worst (Yahoo! scoring) fantasy defense against running backs, and while the Falcons entered Week 6 in the upper tier against running backs they allowed three total touchdowns and over 150 combined yards from scrimmage to Cardinals’ running backs David Johnson and Chase Edmonds last Sunday.

Henderson is more widely owned and looked like the better back in Week 6, so he’s a slightly more appealing add over Brown, who is better-suited for goal line work. The next two games are get-right opportunities for the Rams’ offense. Whoever is on the field at running back (or however the work is divided) will benefit, and be worth flex consideration in 12 and 14-team leagues.
