Latavius Murray, RB, New Orleans Saints

As Alvin Kamara played with what seems to be a pretty severe ankle injury in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Murray played a season-high in snaps (28; 42 percent) and had 79 total yards on 11 touches with a receiving touchdown taken away by a penalty.

Week 7 brings what looks like a literal bear of a matchup against the Chicago Bears. But Chicago sat just barely in the bottom half of the league in fantasy points allowed to running backs going into Week 6 with four rushing touchdowns allowed to the position over their last two game. Scoring would be where Murray has a path to production, with at least six rushing touchdowns in four straight full seasons.

On each side of a Week 9 bye, the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons offer promising matchups to the Saints’ running backs.

The condition of Kamara’s ankle will drive the level of Murray’s appeal in Week 7, and for however long the injury is an issue. But those that bought into Murray as a fantasy sleeper heading into the season can circle back now and see if he’s available as a high-end handcuff/stash.
