The 2019 NFL season is just 4 weeks old and time is running out to start picking up people from your fantasy football waiver wire. Every year a no name blows up in Week 1 and ends up being a top-20 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing.
Let’s get things started by taking a look at some fantasy football waiver wire tight ends for Week 5.
Chris Herndon, TE, New York Jets
The Jets’ Week 4 bye will delay Herndon’s return from a four-game suspension, but that just means there’s a better chance he won’t have to catch passes from Luke Falk instead of Sam Darnold for more than a game or two (if at all, as Darnold has some chance to return from mono in Week 5). Regardless, it’s worth getting ahead of the curve to add Herndon.
From Week 9-Week 17 last season, Herndon was TE12 in full-point PPR. Widen out to Week 6, and he was TE9 in full-point PPR from there to Week 17. It’s worth noting three of those 11 games came when Darnold was out injured.
There are more noteworthy mouths to feed in the Jets’ offense than there were last year, and any games without Darnold won’t line him up for great success. But Herndon has low-end TE1 potential, and that’s well worth squatting on for a week or two if possible and necessary.
