Giovani Bernard, RB, Cincinnati Bengals
Bernard had seven carries for 21 yards and two catches (on three targets) against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. When Joe Mixon (ankle) left the game, took over as the Bengals’ lead back. Mixon’s status for Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers, and perhaps beyond, is unclear of this writing on Monday.
In the two games he started in place of Mixon last year, Bernard had 27 carries for 130 yards and three touchdowns along with nine receptions (13 targets) for 52 yards. In fantasy terms, he put up over 14 non-PPR points and 19 full-point PPR points in each game.
Even if Mixon is able to play in Week 2, it’s safe to say he won’t be 100 percent. So Bernard will at least have flex appeal in PPR formats, with a very high ceiling if he’s the lead back.
