T.J. Hockenson, TE, Detroit Lions

The Lions took a little heat for drafting Hockenson eighth overall in April. But all he did was catch six passes (on nine targets) for 131 yards and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 . The yardage was a rookie record for a tight end in an NFL debut.

The history of rookie tight ends in fantasy is dismal. But the Lions also have veteran tight end Jesse James to function as a blocker, and they can use Hockenson primarily as a pass target to allow him to shine.

Hockenson has decent-looking matchups coming against the Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs over the next three weeks. There’s legit weekly TE1 potential here, and the rookie out of Iowa is a must-add this week.
